Travel: Umbria, Italy

Umbria is the center of Italy, and sometimes called the green heart because of the combination of hills, mountains and flat terrains.  It has some of the characteristics of its neighbor of Tuscany, but also the mountainous likes of the Marches.  It is known for its fertile land and expensive truffles (fungi) which can cost as much as $100 or more each.

One of the most famous cities of this region is Assisi.  It is famous for its monastaries high up in the hills and mountains and where St. Francis performed miracles.
