Travel: Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

Friuli Venezia Giulia is probably most famous for the city of Venice (Venezia), as it was built entirely on the water.  The wood sunk into the mud at the bottom of the sea is now actually petrified (converted into rock).  It is called one of the most romantic cities in the world and is known for its Gondola rides.  Gondolas are said to take anywhere from 7 to 20 years to build.  When I was last in Venice, the rides in a gondola were $40 for two.
