St. Amandus

Patron Saint of Hotel Keepers & Wine Makers (Hospitality)
Feast Day Celebrated on February 6

Born near Nantes, Fance around the end of the 6th Century, he was one of the great apostles of Flanders and of noble heritage extraction.  At the age of 20 he ran away from home to become a monk.  Later under the direction of Bishop St. Austregisile, he remained in solitude for 15 years, living in a cell and subsisting on bread and water.  While returning to France it is said he calmed a storm while at sea. He was made Bishop of Maastricht about the year 649, but unable the repress the disorders of the place, he appealed to the Pope, Martin I, for instructions.
