Grandson of Charles Martel, and nephew of King Pepin, he was also the first cousin to Charlemagne. He studied under Saint Alcuin and became an advisor to Charlemagne. Exiled when he was accused of supporting Bernard, a rival to Emporer Louis the Debonair, he founded and established the New Corbie monastery in Saxony.
