Salvatore Quasimodo

Salvatore Quasimodo came from Módica, and is most notable of the modern Italian Iyric poets. The Sicilian landscape and Antiquity are recurrent themes in his early hermetic poems.  His second creative phase he turned more to themes from his own times including war, resistance, suffering lonely in love.  1959 brought him the Nobel Prize for Literature.
