Al Pacino
[Alfredo James Pacino]
Born April 25, 1940
Fan Club: 350 Park
Avenue, New York, NY 10022
9830 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90212
Bronx boy does good. Born
to Salvatore & Rose, in East Harlem, this Sicilian-American soon moved
to the Bronx when his father left while he was still an infant. He
was raised by his mother and grandmother in a small apartment and it is said
he was very distraught and almost crazy when his mother died in 1962.
Most famous for his role in
The Godfather (for which he recieved
$35,000 and currently gets $7 million per film), he also made made a number
of greatly acclaimed movies in the 1970s, but for a decade he did not make
a single movie, though he was offered the leading role in Kramer vs. Kramer,
Apocolypse Now and Born on the 4th of July. His comeback was Carlito's
way, and Scent of a Woman which won him his first Ocscar Academy Award, though
he never won for 8 nominations including Serpico and the Godfather.
Interesting to note that he was only paid $35,000 for his role in the Godfather
(though no one really wanted him in the movie to begin with) but he now gets
$7 million per film. Though a life-long bachelor who never married,
he does have a daughter names Julie Marie from a brief romance with Jan Tarrant.
His longest love affair was with Diane Keaton, and while he has been
in some very very long relationships, he once said in a Barbara Walters interview
that marriage would not give him the amount of freedom to do certain things
he wants. His youngest and one of the briefest affairs was with his
co-star Penelope Ann Miller during Carlito's Way. He has
been involved with Australian Actress Linda Hobbs, and most currently
actress Beverly D'Angelo. Al Pacino is a
member of AA and often went on drinking and drug binges for days. Though
he gave it up for good, he still smoked 2 pack of cigarettes a day until
1994 when he decided he wanted to protect his voice.
In 2001 Al won the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille
lifetime achievement award.
Some Quotes from Al
The actor becomes an emotional athlete.
The process is painful - - my personal life suffers.
My grandparents came from Italy bringing
along their cultural heritage.
That's why I have always felt a very strong
bond with Italy
I have many Italian friends, I love
Italian food, my girlfriend is half Italian,
my daughter is Italian,
and in order to feel good I have to go to Italy
once in a while.
All this despite the fact that I was raised in the Bronx, with only a few
Italians around.
Who speaks of triumph? To endure is
everything.
