Joe Causi
Being raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn as a child, and living there as a teen and an adult, "Brooklyn's Own" Joe Causi can truly claim to be "Brooklyn's Own." He takes what his hometown has given him from the street and shares it with his radio audience. Whether it be advertisers' grand openings, dance clubs or concerts, Joe's warm sense of humor and ability to relate to people has made him a favorite with KTU listeners.
Joe has been making people smile almost all his life. Always the class clown, he got his start imitating people. He started by imitating teachers and then expanded his repertoire to include movie stars and finally, anything that made a sound. Impersonation developed into a natural talent and an effective entertaining tool for his air personality.
Joe graduated from Lafayette High School and entered the College of Staten Island where he majored in Electro-Mechanical Technology. After two years, he realized that music and performance were where his heart and talent lie. So he left college to attend the Announcer Training Broadcast Studios in New York City. While there, he was chosen from a group of 100 other announcers to work as an in-store disc jockey at Jimmy's Music World, a large record outlet.
In March 1978, shortly after graduating from broadcasting school, WNFG in Hibbing, MN hired him and there he rounded out his talent and experience working in production, doing live remotes, sportscasting, and news. But New York City is where Joe was from and where Joe wanted to be. He was getting closer to home when five months later, WERA in Plainfield, NJ called to offer him a job. While at WERA, Joe produced most of the stations' commercials utilizing his vivid imagination. And, in January 1979, he was getting closer than ever to home. He moved to WJDM in Elizabeth, NJ for the midday position. "The folks at home could finally hear me from the station," he elated.
Finally his dreams of making it big in New York City were realized. After only a three month stint at WJDM, he received a call to come in for an audition from the number one radio station in New York and the country--92 KTU. He was hired as 92 KTU's morning man where he became the most listened to radio personality in the United States.
Recently, with the re-birth of those three magic letters, "KTU", Joe was asked to join the Dream Team by programming director, Frankie Blue. Joe can be heard as host of the KTU STUDIO 54 CLUBHOUSE every Sunday night from 6-9 p.m. and the KTU FUNHOUSE with classics mixed by Jellybean Benitez on Saturday.
Joe was recently awarded Grand Marshall of the Christopher Columbus parade in Brooklyn (18th Ave) from the Federation of Italian Americans. As a Sicilian-American, Joe says "It just doesn't get any better than that."
