The Soprano's are an ANATOMYof Italo American CULTURE! -- Levy??
I have TWO Comments!
First is Shawn Levy, the Second is Soprano Filming Sites.
FIRST, The Article of Shawn Levy in the Portland Oregonian was disgusting in general, but what struck me as REVOLTING to the Extreme, was her Comment that "the Sopranos is an Anatomy of Italo American Life". She did not say "The Sopranos" are a story of "one fictional I-A life", BUT AN ANATOMY OF ITALO-AMERICAN CULTURE.
In other words, "The Sopranos" is a TYPICAL PORTRAYAL of the Italian American !!!!!! (See the excerpt below)
For those who ever had any doubt about the Media's, and particularly The Soprano's effect of totally equating Italian Americans with Mobsters, let them give pause.
And surely you cannot pass this off as merely the ramblings of the ignorant unwashed. Ms. Levy is a presumably educated informed journalist!
I cannot sufficiently adequately express my loathing for Ms. Levy and her remarks extracted from:
THE SOPRANOS, SINGIN' THE HIGH NOTES by Shawn Levy,
Portland Oregonian, SUNRISE, 12/15/2000, Page 38......"But the main thing is the writing. Series creator David Chase and his staff have come up with an account of modern family life, AN ANATOMY OF ITALO-AMERICAN CULTURE and a mob epic...worthy of comparison to... "Godfather" trilogy."
SECOND, I would in no way want to sound "incendiary", but I am suprised that none of "The Sopranos" filming sites have been "torched", as a "political protest".
"The Sopranos " films in Lodi, at Satin Dolls, which of course doubles for the show's famed Bada Bing club.
Owner Marco Solari, who is a Soprano's fan, was excited to have his restaurant, Solari's, a 60- year-old Hackensack institution, chosen for an episode.
Curiously it was selected, because of it's "classic New Jersey restaurant exterior," I'm curious as to what is "classic New Jersey"?
My suggestion instead would be for those Italian Americans in the area to "boycott" all businesses used as Soprano filming sites. I doubt that a boycott would be very successful against a strip club, but Solari's could well feel the wrath of the community.
Here in Los Angeles, there was merely a hint of a very successful restaurant owner having said something in jest, that was possibly construed as partially offensive to some Jewish patrons, who reported it to the local paper, and within one month the restaurant failed because of the ensuing boycott. Now that's a Community, recognizing "detrimental" behavior, effectively "exerting" it's power, and "discouraging" any "like" conduct!
I fear that to the contrary in the Italian American Community that, Solari's might perversely become a "must visit" local or tourist site.
