Cannes Chock Full of Big Names

The United States, Japan, France and Italy ‹ plus a healthy sprinkling of favourite auteurs ‹ will be dominating the Official Selection of this year¹s Cannes Film Festival, which takes place May 9 to 20....

Italy weighs in with two heavyweights (Nanni Moretti and Ermanno Olmi) in competition, plus Martin Scorsese¹s four-hour docu-tribute on the Italian cinema (previously shown at Venice in a working version) titled Il mio viaggio nel cinema italiano and Francesca Archibugi¹s drama Tomorrow in Un Certain Regard.....

Tribute

The Cannes Film Festival, in collaboration with the Cinecittà Holding, will pay tribute to one of Italian cinema¹s most prolific figures, Vittorio De Sica, who this year would have been 100 years old. For the occasion, special screenings of Miracolo a Milano (Palme d¹or at the 1951 Cannes Festival) and Ladri di biciclette will be shown. An exclusive exhibition in the Press Hall of the Palais will complete the tribute.
