Half of Italy's Towns At Risk of Flood & Landslide Disasters

According to a report by the Ministry of the Environment, 3671 towns in Italy are at hydrogeological risk.

That figure amounts to 45% of the national total.

The reports states that 1173 towns are at "very high risk", while 2498 are at "high risk".

At the highest level, most of the high risk areas are in the region of Lombardy (678), Piedmont (651), Campania (291), and Abruzzo (208). The regions of Umbria, Basilicata and Molise have, respectively, 89%, 87% and 86% of their territory at risk.

Data from the "Legambiente" (Environment League) reveal that there have been 13,000 hydrogeological events, such as landslides and floods, in the last ten years.
