The region of
Sicily is shown above in red
Sicily is the most southern
region of Italy. And because of its proximity to Northern Africa, you
will find (like the language), Arabic influences, in addition to those of
hundreds and thousands of years earlier like the tomatoes the Spaniards brought
over from the Americas, and the Greeks before them.
Some of the most famous Sicilian dishes you will
find are Pasta con Sardine (pasta with sardine sauce); Caponata (eggplant
salad); Spaghetti (yes, spaghetti); and of course for the sweets we have
Cannoli, Tiramisu and Cassatta.
When it comes to pizza, Sicily rivals Naples.
Sicilians like their pizza best when it is cooked in a wood burning
oven.
