Calabria is a port region, and while Italy has many, Calabria is the largest for salt water fishing and closest to the island of Sicily. Some of the most famous regional dishes are Zuppa di Pesce (fish stew) Provolone (sharp white cheese) and Melanzzane al Funghetto (Egglplant with Mushrooms).
