Bisteca Pizzaiola
(Steak with Pizza Style Sauce)
INGREDIENTS
Choice Round Cut Steak
Garlic
Salt & Pepper to Taste
Olive Oil
Oregano
Red Wine
Onions
In a skillet, add some olive
oil, and season with salt and pepper, heat until it is good and hot. Take
your steak and tenderize it by pounding it down a bit. Put the steak
into the skillet and brown on both sides, but do not cook all the way through
(it should take a minute or two most). Remove from the pan and place
aside on a plate with paper towels to drain the oil.
Next add to the skillet your
chopped onions and sliced garlic. Add in hot pepper flakes to taste.
Simmer for about 5 minutes until the onions are soft. Add a splash
of wine (an ounce or two) to deglaze the skillet and add in your tomatoes.
When it comes to a simmer, reduce the heat, and simmer for 10 minutes
or so. After 10 minutes, add the steak back in and continue to cook
for 10 more minutes.
Since this is a tomato based
sauce, you can serve it over rice or flat noodles, I prefer rice, and serve
it with a glass of the same wine you cooked it in to compliment the
flavors.
