The Bar: Soft Drinks: Blood Oranges

Sicilian Blood Orange - A bright red, tangy orange juice from the Sicilian Blood oranges, usually expensive for orange juice, they come into season in November usually.  They make a great mimosa (mix with equal parts champagne) or for a non-alcoholic mimosa, simply add lightly carbonated mineral water.  You can also use them in salads or serve them with gargonzola cheese.

You will now find blood oranges available almost all year around, while the best come from Italy and France, you will also find some good ones from California, or any other state that grows citrus fruit.

When you select your blood oranges, they should be shiny on the outside, and when you get them home, leave them on the counter, never in the refrigerator.  Their shelf life is half that of regular oranges, about 3-5 days.
